It Takes Two

It takes two to make a thing go right.  It takes two to make an outta sight.  This popular song has some real truth embedded in it.  It takes two to make love, or to make lust.  It takes two bring child into existence (traditionally at least), it takes to raise a child (if it is done properly).  It takes at least two people to make a group or a team.  Two is the number of balance.  What would day be if there was no night?  What would heaven be if there was no hell?  What would darkness be if there was no light?  For my female followers what would man be if there was no woman?  So you see there is some truth to what Rob Base was saying.

This morning I want to talk to you about covenant.  In order for there to be a covenant it takes two parties coming to an agreement on the terms of the covenant.  The Bible is full of covenants ranging from the Abrahamic covenant,  Mosaic covenant, and the covenant of the Cross.  When we as believers professed faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior we enter into a covenant that was sealed by  the blood of the Lamb.  We agreed to be his servant and he agreed to be our Master, but in order for this relationship to be fruitful and develop it takes two!

Remember it takes to make a thing go right!

Count on Me

Count on me through thick and thin a friendship that will never end.  When you are weak I will be strong helping you to carry on.  Count on me I will be there.  You can count on me.  How many times has this promise been made to you and how many times have you made this promise?  How did it feel when the promise was broken?  Whether it was you not being there for someone or someone not being there for you.  How did it feel?  Well, for me it was not a good feeling on either side of the spectrum.  I have learned not to make such bold promises.  Not that I am not a trustworthy or dependable person, but because I am not in control of what happens or in control of my own life for that matter.  I have come to learn that only God can make those kinds of promises.  As God is ever present in your time of need and always present for that matter. God is eternal therefore the friendship will truly never end.  The Bible teaches that his strength is made perfect in our weakness.

Finally, although this was a nice, warm, and highly popular song it is not a good way to live your life. Don't count on me or any other fallible creature!  Count on the One who Was who Is who Is to come.

Don't Change

I will love you when your hair turns gray, and I will still love you if you gain a little weight.  This is the claim that Musiq Soul-Child  makes in is his hit single "Don't Change."  However love does change.  It either evolves or it diminishes.  The same is true for our relationship with God.  We either grow in love for God or distractions take our focus off God and our love begins to diminish.

The good news is that God's love for us doesn't change.  Why?  Because it is not conditional on what we do.  The Bible teaches that while we were yet sinners he loved us and he died for us.  Yahweh told the children of Israel through his prophet Malachi that I am the Lord and I change not!

Therefore, my brothers and sisters rest assured that God's love for you has never and will never change.  God is love it is God's very nature!
